Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 18559
fonts in PDF export problem -- Text Following Apostrophe Not Properly Rendered
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:43:45 UTC
some fonts in tabbed and indented paragraphs does not display properly when exported in built-in PDF driver. There are spaces between apostraphy and the letters. eg. correct: don't incorrect: don' t fonts I tested are Gothic L, Nimbus Roman 9 L, Chancery L don't work.
I can confirm this, again with OOo 1.1 RC3 on Linux. Will attach test case.

I think it must be no coincidence that it's fonts whose names end in "L" are the ones which are problematic. Note that in the test case the font "Bookman L" has this problem, but not "Bookman".
Doesn't occur in win32
Could someone with privileges (such as the reporter) please change the summary line to something more descriptive, like "tab inserted after apostrophe in PDF export"? Thanks.
Issue 18722, which should be marked as a duplicate of this bug, provides an additional symptom: the first couple letters after the single quote can be superimposed over the following characters. Two notes here: 1. There are at least some fonts which are not "L" fonts which insert the extra space after the apostrophe. 2. Only some of the problem fonts have the additional problem of superimposing some characters over others. I'm going to post an additional test case that shows these problems, together with the PDF output.

Confirmed -- RH9/1.1rc3
All the fonts showing the problem seem to be type 1 fonts from /usr/share/ghostscript/fonts. Strangely the PostScript output does not show the same behaviour.
fixed in CWS vcl7pp1r2
