Proposal for General Work by Students on OpenOffice.org

There are several spaces where OpenOffice.org can offer itself as a place for student intervention. For instance, a professor could structure a class on office suite construction around OpenOffice.org, or a class on application architecture; or on architecture revision. Because OpenOffice.org is open source, there are few limits.

This brief draft focuses on current development and suggests some processes by which students might profitably engage in the project while also satisfying the demands of their schools. Because it is a draft and not complete, I welcome emendations and additions.

Apache OpenOffice is an effort undergoing incubation at The Apache Software Foundation (ASF), sponsored by the Apache Incubator. Incubation is required of all newly accepted projects until a further review indicates that the infrastructure, communications, and decision making process have stabilized in a manner consistent with other successful ASF projects. While incubation status is not necessarily a reflection of the completeness or stability of the code, it does indicate that the project has yet to be fully endorsed by the ASF.
