Description floeff+ooo 2005-01-22 09:01:25 UTC
Please provide an option to print even and odd pages. This is good for dual-
sided printing when not having a duplex unit.
Comment 1 Regina Henschel 2005-01-22 13:34:10 UTC
It's already there. Use the button "Options..." in the print-dialog. You can
check or uncheck "Left pages" and "Right pages".
Comment 2 floeff+ooo 2005-01-22 13:36:01 UTC
Thanks, that sounds good! But does that work when I have disabled left and right
side division?

If so, I would suggest renaming this feature or adding the even and odd words,
because it may cause confusion to users.
Comment 3 Regina Henschel 2005-01-22 14:05:14 UTC
Up to now OOo treats all writer-documents as having left pages and right pages.
And in "left to right" languages all odd pages are left and all even pages are
right. You cannot disable this. You can only define, that both use the same layout.
Comment 4 christof.pintaske 2005-01-25 12:49:04 UTC
looks more like an RFE for writer
Comment 5 michael.ruess 2005-01-25 15:43:38 UTC
MRU->HI: please evaluate, wether this is "RFE", "Defect" or ...
Comment 6 h.ilter 2005-01-25 16:55:48 UTC
HI: Yes it's an RFE. This kind of feature will support from some HP deskjet
printer driver for example, which are not able to print duplex.
Comment 7 lohmaier 2005-01-25 17:51:49 UTC
Say what? What should this "RFE" add to OOo? The option to print odd/even pages
septerately already exists.
So please specify what should be changed or close this issue worksforme.
Comment 8 floeff+ooo 2005-01-25 17:59:13 UTC
It should make clear that left/right means even/odd, just adding a little text
in brackets would be sufficient I guess.
Comment 9 h.ilter 2005-01-26 10:27:29 UTC
RFE: Request for Enhancement.
HI->UFI: Please add description into the online help.
Comment 10 Uwe Fischer 2005-04-19 13:48:16 UTC
added index entries "even/odd" to text\shared\optionen\01040400.xhp

Now --> enhancement to change the UI

Note that issue 58625 and (I think also) issue 54517 additionally request that
the option be moved to the main print dialog, which makes sense to me as well.
Other related issues are issue 23858 (request for odd/even for graphic apps) and
issue 3910. Also, I believe the order of the options is important to avoid
confusion: to me it makes sense for the "odd" option to be first, since the
first page is odd. I checked these other applications: Microsoft Word, Adobe
Acrobat, and kprinter, and all use odd/even nomenclature without reference to
left/right, and all list the odd option first.

Sooo what about some little nice graphic showing us what this left/right thing is?
is nº 1 page on the left or the right?

What about odd/even options and then a reverse option or something like that?
Comment 18 dfrawley 2006-05-03 23:58:33 UTC
To add a little perspective here - I am a new OOo user coming across from Word.
I use the Odd/Even Word print option all the time to save paper. I then had to
do this with OOo the other day and hit a wall. I couldn't find the option, the
help wasn't any help at all and as time was pressing, I ended up using Word
after all. I then had to do quite a bit of searching on online forums before I
found the left/right option.
Seriously guys - add this to the standard Print range dialog. In these times
where people are looking more and more to save paper, this should be an easy to
find, easy to use feature, and at the moment it isn't.

This is one of those "little" details that makes me throw up my hands in the air
and drag myself screaming back to Word, at least for a while I cool off. I found
it educational to learn here that "all odd pages are left and all even pages are
right," but I guess I am used (and respond quicker) to dialogs with the Odd/Even
descriptor. I don't like it but I *might* be able to live with that... but not
with the command BURIED under "Options," especially when I use it all the time.
The truth is that many of us average users (I'm no tech) *expect* to find it in
the same place as other popular apps we use (from Adobe, Micromedia,
Microsoft... heck, even Textpad has it), and that means an Odd/Even choice up
front in the *main* print dialog.
Comment 20 pesala 2008-09-25 06:02:27 UTC
Just a small quibble: odd pages are always on the right, not the left.

The pages options should be on the main dialogue, as should "Create single print jobs
(collate)" and "Print automatically inserted blank pages."

The term "Brochure" seems odd to me. The first thing I imagine it to mean is a trifold
brochure. Unless that is the term used for booklet printing in Word, I think "Booklet" is
preferable.

All of the other options belong on other tabs of a tabbed dialogue. One tab for content
and Notes, and one for Layout (tiled and n-up printing).
Comment 21 bennyatc 2009-02-17 07:59:11 UTC
I think will be better to disable these options when I set to print one page for
every sheet becase in this case if I'll set no print left/right pages the
printer will print anything.
(Sorry for my english)
Comment 22 macias 2009-02-17 09:55:06 UTC
@bennyatc, you cannot disable something that does not exist yet. So it is
better to leave such polishing when the feature will be implemented (if it will
be).

I also came to submit a bug report (feature request) for this issue. I think a
lot of people must miss this because it's not at all obvious.
