Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 9806
opening .doc files OO dies
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:56:16 UTC
I've got .doc files created by OO, I'm pretty sure the 1.0 incarnation. Trying to open these .doc files with 1.0.1 totally fails. Office just quits, no complaints, just disappears. It happens everytime I try to open a .doc file. I tried opening .doc through ctrl + o= it dies I tried opening .doc through selecting it in the directory and then clicking enter...OO opens then immediately shuts down. I wouldn't think much of it but I know this document was created by OO not more than 4~5 months ago.

Not to be thwarted by a little .doc bug I immediately went on to try and open a .sxw file created 29july02 (i mention this becuase I'm pretty sure I've stayed current on the revs. of OO). OO complained about an irrecoverable error and then died. please see screen grab.
Tried again with the same document. This time the document was displayed and then the error message came up...Progress!

Thank you for using and supporting OOo. Please attach the files which crash OOo on your system. It is also advisable to install OOo using a package format maintained by your distribution if available. For example, with Debian use the OOo provided in Debian's package format.

I should note that if I ignore the error message with the .sxw files I can continue working. If I click OK then OO quits immediately. Related to the .doc? I think so but I may be wrong. RH8 is my sys.thanks
Reassigned to MRU
Dennis, thank for the update. Unable to duplicate on RH 8.0, RH OOo 1.0.1. Unable to duplicate on RH 8.0, OOo 643c. Make sure you have installed OOo 1.0.1 using the RPMs supplied by RH.
It's most likely how OOo was installed. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 9805 ***
