Description Unknown 2002-11-20 17:48:40 UTC
After I saw the installation is complete window, Windows informed me that the program had a problem and is shutting down. When I try to repair the installation, it looks like it repairs Ok but the program won't run. It won't allow me to uninstall it from the control panel because it says it can't find a file it needs. It won't allow me to uninstall it from the program because it says something about "Use the local setup program to deinstall" but that's what I'm using.

I can't install it and I can't uninstall it. Deleting the folder from the Program Files folder and reinstalling the program results in the same thing.

The error I keep getting is "soffice.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program"

Win2000 Pro SP3

Jordan, thank you for using and supporting OOo.

These notes are take from issue 9080, written by of:

1. Remove OOo 1.0.1 folder
2. Search for sversion.ini (it's in application data folder of your
    user account).
3. Open sversion.ini in editor and remove the OpenOffice line.
    Retry to install OOo.

Check to make sure your download has not been corrupted. There are
MD5sums availabe for the binaries.

Make sure you are performing a multi-user install followed by a
workstation install. There is a good reference here:

http://documentation.openoffice.org/setup_guide/index.html

If the problem still persists, please list the version of Java
installed on your system.

It would be helpful if you listed which video card you use as well.

Thanks for the advise. I followed your instructions, first removing the program folder, then removing the program info from sversion.ini and reinstalling. Same result. Then I tried logging in as administrator and running setup -net, which went further but still resulted in the setup program aborting. But I then tried the workstation setup and that completed successfully, but the program still wouldn't run. But at least the uninstall routine worked this time.

It's a good thing I never associated Word and Excel files with the program.

My system is brand new. It's a Pentium 4 Acer Veriton 7500 1.7 gigahertz machine with 256 megs of ram and a 40 GB hard drive. I'm running Win2000 Pro with SP3 and I have hardly anything installed on it. I do have Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition but I disabled it before I tried installing your program.

If you have the time and resources to pursue this issue further,

Have you tried installing OOo without enabling Java support?

As a hint, if the install fails during the multi-user phase, the
workstation phase should not work either.

When I get to the Java option, I have no choices available. It says "No Java runtime environment was foundwhich can be used by OpenOffice.org.

Hi Jordon,
I don't think that the Ooo install problem is related to a missing
java. We have heard about some problems installing OOo, that might
depend on graphic device drivers. We also have heard about problems
with W2K and Fat32 partitions. But the only case we've had to
reproduce turned out to a defectiv Fat32 partition. Maybe it would
help to convert to NTFS.

My graphics adapter is listed as an Intel 82845G/GL Graphics Controller.

Convert to NTFS? Doesn't that mean a reformat and reinstallation of everything? I've got too much time invested in getting this thing running well.

Sorry to say, but we can't reproduce.
Comment 8 Olaf Felka 2003-05-22 11:15:46 UTC
To keep it mind.

This problem won't occure in OOo 2.0. Installation will be done by
native installer.
