Comment 1 ianstuart 2002-11-13 18:52:40 UTC
Fixed initial problem by creating a new folder but still cannot save
files...now get:

Error saving the document Untitled1:
The operation was started under an invalid parameter
Comment 2 kandew 2002-11-13 20:11:22 UTC
These are normal file permissions on a Linux system, so I am filing
this issue as "worksforme".
Users do not normally have permission to save in the Opt directory,
or below it. You are limited to your Home directory,
"/home/username". It may be your OOo installation is incomplete --
sounds like only the first part of a multi-user setup was done.
Please refer to the Installation_Guide.pdf that comes with OOo 1.0.1
for installation help. Thanks, Liz

Please provide the following information:
1. Linux Distribution/Version.
2. Logged in username.
3. Step by step description of how you installed OOo 1.01.
4. Exact steps to recreate the issue.
Thanks, Liz

1. Suse Linux 8.1
2. Any username other than root (have tried: "ians", "toms"
and "guest")
3. Clicked the OpenOffice.org icon on the KDE desktop, followed the
instructions from there. The only options that were available were
user fields (name, address etc.) and enabling java support.
4. Start a new office document (text, spreadsheet, presentation or
drawing). Make some changes. Click the save icon or choose save from
the file menu. In the save dialog navigate to /home/ians (or
elsewhere), type in a file name (e.g. "blah"). Click "Save"...the
error dialog appears, the application crashes and the document cannot
be recovered.

Hi Ian, I am unable to recreate this issue on two different systems,
both running SuSE8.1 with their rpm version of OpenOffice. What
version of OpenOffice is installed on your system? Please post the
output of this command (as root, without the quotes) -
"rpm -qa | grep OpenOffice". Thanks, Liz.

Found in SuSE database the same issue with StarOffice, and recreated
the bad installation. The problem occurs in selecting "Local
Installation" during setup
You must delete your incorrect installation and start again, using
"Workstation Installation" as the Installation Type. This fix from
the SuSE database works:

substituting OpenOffice.org1.0.1 for StarOffice6.0)
Log in as your user (not root) and start your desktop.
Press the key combination ALT+F2 in KDE.
Enter "xterm" in the input field.
Click "Run".

Now execute the following commands:

rm -rf OpenOffice.org1.0.1
rm .sversionrc

Initialize the installation by clicking the OpenOffice.org icon on
the desktop. Do not change the presettings for the installation path
and installation type. Use the standard workstation installation
instead.

That worked, thank you.

This also resolved issue 9218.

It seemed sensible to me to choose "local Installation" on set
up...why shouldn't or wouldn't I?
Comment 10 wolframgarten 2002-11-19 10:18:20 UTC
When starting the installation with the option /net a source
installation is done. Admin rights are required for this. This
installation cannot be used for working. The user has to go to the
installed folder where the network installation was placed, start
setup and install an own version of Office on his user account. In
this setup you have the selection between workstation installation
(thin client) and local installation (complete, needs lot of
diskspace). Hope this helps.
Issue set to works for me.
