There does not appear to be the ability to add a carriage return in a cell. In
Excel if I hold down the Alt key and hit enter while editing a cell I get return
charactor. This is useful for general formating and managing list of information.

Just use Ctrl+Enter (only inside cell, does not work in the toolbox
edit field). It is described in the online help, index "Line break (in
cells)".
