Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 9028
Labels not Saved/Loaded in Word 97 format properly
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:43:23 UTC
I generated a set of labels (Avery Letter 5366) and filled them in with 44 pt text. Then I saved them in the Word 97/2000/XP file format. When I exit out of OpenOffice and then load the saved file the spacing on the labels is way off, there is a lot of space above any filled in label. Opening the file in MS Word 97 gives just a list of what was filled into the labels with no sign of it being in a proper label format. I like OpenOffice, and I'm hoping to move my company to OpenOffice soon, but they use labels a lot so I can't until this is fixed. Great program though.
What you should do is attach one of the failed document to this issue (log in and use http://www.openoffice.org/issues/createattachment.cgi?id=9028 to attach) and we'll take a look at what is going wrong.
Created attachment 3518 [details] Example - Created in Writer, saved as Word 97/2000/XP
Well for me loading the final .doc into word and writer gives the same appearance (with devel version), perhaps this problem has been solved recently. Could you also attach the original source .sxw file as well so I can confirm that the final .doc was converted well from the orig .sxw
Created attachment 3533 [details] .sxw version - created in the same way as the .doc version
Please note that I did not load an sxw and then save it as a doc when finding the initial problem. The labels were created new and saved first as a .doc. To attach the .sxw you asked for I simply followed the same steps as to create the .doc and saved as an .sxw
I see it, there are extra paragraphs between the frames being exported.
Aha, I understand why this is happening now. The labels are frames, and anchored as character. In word 97 their modern textboxes could not be anchored as character (inline with text) they added this ability in xp but we haven't implemented it yet, so as a fallback we export them as old style frames which also aren't exactly inline with text so paragraphs appear between them. The correct solution is to implement issue 3958, which I have working for import, but I'm stalled on export at the moment. When its done this will work correctly. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 3958 ***
As mentioned on the qa dev list on March 5th I will close all resolved duplicate issues. Please see this posting for details. First step in IssueZilla is unfortunately to set them to verified.
