Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 7608
Lowercase action causes OOo to hang with attached document
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:56:16 UTC
Hi there, I have a line of text which has all upper case chars. I select the upper case text, make it lower case using the right-click menu, then change the first letter to upper case. Then I save and the progress bar locks at about 60%, the CPU is locked at 100%, and the memory usage goes up until the system goes low on memory. I have to kill soffice.exe with the Task Manager. I could not repeat the event starting from a scratch document, but it shows again only when I edit my particular file, previously made with MS Word. I can send you the file if you need it. Thank you for your great job Good luck Giovanni
Created attachment 2775 [details] the text to change starts with "BIOLOGICAL AND ORGANIC MOLECULES.." page 2
Giovanni, thanks for taking the time to post this issue. Thank you for using and support OOo 1.0.1. Duplicated on Win NT 4.0 SP6, OOo 1.0.1. The users instructions will cause OOo to hang. Using the my trimmed down version of the users file ( 7608testcase.sxw ) 1. Open the file. 2. Select "BI" 3. Right click->Case/Characters->Lowercase 4. Add a space after the letter "I" 5. Either a Save or Save As function will cause OOo to hang.

was able to replicate this bug with the file given by stefan and PM. my system configuration is WinXP NT 5.01 version 2600 using OOo 1.0.1 I also replicated the bug on Windows 2000 NT 5.0 version 2195 using OOo 1.0.1
Original summary line CPU locks and memory leaks after lower case making and saving Also see issue 6687

Haven't reproduced the hang on purpose, tho' it did happen to me this morning :( But I have tested (W2K,v5 2195 SP3) that a case change with Format>Case/chars>LC (or UC, or use of either toolbar button) does NOT alter the file so that "Save" is offered on the File menu; and Ctrl+S does nothing. Changing the case displayed via Format>Character>Font effects tab>Effects>Capitals does alter the file. cheers Dick Nowell
Works for me in 643 on NT 4.0 SP6a.
