Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 7579
Columns - Word 2k docs with columns have different pagination in OOo
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:56:16 UTC
Word 2K documents with columns end up having different pagination in OOo. I probably worded the summary wrong. 1. In Word, create 2 columns of text that overflows onto a second page ( I'll attach a document ). 2. Look at how many elements are on the second page. 3. Load the Word doc in OOo and the second page contains less elements than in Word. In this test case, the total number of elements is correct but OOo somehow crams more elements the 2 columns than Word does. I've attach a file sent in by Cheryl Belch. I believe the problems she is experiencing is not related to section breaks as she indicated in issue 6817 ( I built some basic test cases and section breaks seem to import fine ) but the columns she is using in section 2. At the very least, please take a look at her file to try to determine what the issue is with the Word doc she provided.

Yes. I can confirm that there are errors in both docs when opened in oo1.0 as against MS Word 97 under Windows 2000. The "sample doc" breaks much too early on the first page in OO; the two column doc only has about two lines on the second page in OO where it has five or so in Word. I should be able to mark this as "new" not unconfirmed. But the option seems to have vanished suddenly in thte last few days.
I tried both files (Word2k, WINXP) and experienced almost the same what others above. - The first file contains 2 pages in W2k and 4 pages in OO. - The second file includes 2 columns, and 96 rows. It has two pages, but on the second page there are 4 rows in W2k and 6 rows in OO. It seems to me a problem of the import of column starts and breaks rather than a pagination problem...
Hi, Any progress on this? All of our product Safety Data Sheets are produced with this column layout therefore it is important that we can resolve this issue. Thanks, Cheryl ;o) ps. tried to change this to P1 but do not have access to do this. Can someone change it to P1 please!

Issue 3651 may be referring to the same issue.
Cheryl, thanks for your continued attention to this issue. P1 priority is reserved for issues that crash OOo. I've researched your issue more and I have found another case with the same behaviour as your document. In summary, OOo current does not support sections with margins that are different than the main page. Your column sections has different margins than the main page. Please see issue 6879. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 6879 ***
As mentioned on the qa dev list on March 5th I will close all resolved duplicate issues. Please see this posting for details. First step in IssueZilla is unfortunately to set them to verified.
