This is a problem importing Word 97 .doc to the OO.o WP
I think it's all .doc and all OS, but O97/W98 with OO.o 1.0.0 is what i've
tested.

I can format a Word document to contain a multi-column section. It looks like
this:

text text text text
text text text text
  col1 col2 col3
  col1 col2 col3
  col1 col2 col3
text text text text
text text text text

This is done with section breaks (continuous) at the start and end of the multi-
col section.

This formatting actually arose in my CV which I want to keep in .doc for
obvious reasons! I have a simple example file but I can't see how to attach it
to this issue.

The problem arises if the multi-col section has different left margin from the
rest of the page -- it's indented like the layout above, (or possibly if the
col1 text is formatted as a bullet??)

Then, on import, OO.o breaks the page at the section breaks, even though in
Word they're marked as continuous.

Now I can see this is hard to format in OO.o (I eventually used a table) but it
is a legitimate document and introducing page breaks seems a bit severe. I
haven't the foggiest idea how this might be fixed.

That's correct, writer sections cannot have different page margins to
the host page. Word's can, so we currently can do no better than to
make a new page with the new margins. This is a to-do for sections in
writer.

Can I just ask if this issue has been solved as of stable release
1.1beta2? If so can this issue please be closed.

Hi,

the actual situation is:
1.0.3.1 german version WIN98SE can not show the document on 1 page as
per Comments From Caolan McNamara 2002-08-09 03:29 PDT.

I also tested with 1.1. Beta2 where the problem seems to be solved.
So I set this bug
- FIXED in 1.1 Beta2 (QA, please check!)
And also
- ALL OS

SBA->MRU: Please verify if this one is really fixed (as this is the
master of 2 duplicates...)
Reassigned to Michael.

Set to "Worksforme" again, see above.
Comment 10 michael.ruess 2003-07-01 08:03:04 UTC
MRU: It's correct. In Beta we achieved preventing these unnecessary
page breaks between sections with different page margins.
For OO1.1 RC we also implemented left/right indents to emulate the
different page margins from Word format.
