Description Unknown 2002-09-05 20:18:34 UTC
The document in question contains a few dozen graphics - linked .png files that
are kept in the path "<document location>/images/<filename>.png".

I try to set a graphic's link path to "images/<filename>.png" and click OK to
close the graphic properties.

I then reopen the properties and the path has been changed to "file:///C:/<path
to document location>/images/<*>.png".

I've tried everything I can think of, including the "Save Relative to" options.

This is a major headache when I move the document to a different enclosing
folder... grr.

I've submitted this as a question on users@ooo as well... just hoping somebody
knows from the code, or some such.

I learned from the users mailing list that this is only a display
issue - the URL is stored relative internally.

I'm going to change this to a suggestion that the URL display be in a
format consistent with the 'Store URLs relative to file' option. That
would at least provide UI feedback. (I haven't thought through the
'relative to Internet' option's effect yet.)

Reassigned to BH.

Changed summary to actual status.

May be, an additional checkbox "link absolute - ()Yes ()No" or similar would be
helpful.

In Issue 57721 a special aspect of these problems is discussed, the report for
Issue 63824 shows a serious limitation of OOo's usability caused by the current
automatic hyperlink handling.

There are many applications where also hyperlinks to an absolute target are
required (company logo, therms of trade, ... on a file server) and also relative
ones (to other files in the "project" in the current path on the harddisk). I
Just see the problem in my company that it's very difficult to use OOo for
technical documentation because of this limitation, and I suggest we should try
to get this enhancement in 3.x

I beleive that is more important than only P4

Of course all these considerations are also relevant for the other OOo modules.

The specification under a.m. URL does not relflect these problems from Iusse

Rainer, I'm a little bit confused about the issues mentioned here.
In my understanding this issue is a request for changing the display in the
hyperlink dialog in a way that the URL is shown as it would be stored (relative
or absolute). This is understandable and IMHO it's reasonable.

Issue 57721 (that BTW is still unconfirmed) looks like a duplicate to this one
or at least we should be able to unite both to one common issue.

OTOH Issue 63824 is marked as duplicate to 57721 and obviously describes a bug
and not just a visual irritation. To me it looks as if both issues are different.
