Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 6861
simple .doc file crashes OOo 1.0.1
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:56:16 UTC
The short, simple file "callfinal.doc" (which I will attach) is a call for papers for a special journal issue. It opens fine in MSWORD97 (SR1) but a) will not open in OOo1.0.1 Writer, and b) seems to crash OOo1.0.1 Writer. I tried launching the process in a shell window to see if any error msgs were created and there are none. The "splash screen" for OpenOffice comes up, then the process stops and the splash screen disappears. I tried 3 ways of opening the callfinal.doc file: doubleclick on the filename; launch OOo writer and use File/Open; and launch "soffice callfinal.doc" in a shell window. None works.
Created attachment 2463 [details] short .doc file (a journal issue call for papers) that OOo will not open

Les, thanks for posting this issue. The file you attached is a Word 2.0 file. OOo does not support Word 2.0. Please see issue 4648. Thank you for using and supporting OOo. Sandeep, thanks for taking the time to verify this issue.
As mentioned on the qa dev list on March 5th I will close all resolved <wontfix/duplicate/worksforme/invalid> issues. Please see this posting for details. First step in IssueZilla is unfortunately to set them to verified.
