Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 55872
Zoom "optimal" should adapt to different page-sizes/orientations
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:37:50 UTC
On page 9, only about 3/4 of the document is displayed. The document is in two columns at that point.

please provide screenshots. The document looks almost the same in OOo as it does in word-viewer. There is no page 9 in word-viewer either.

Created attachment 30499 [details] view with horizontal scrolling enabled
The first screen shot (APage9_twoCols.png) is as I saw it originally. Then when you said you could view it OK I thoght that may be it was a scrolling problem - I had horizontal scrolling disabled. When I enabled horizontal scrolling I could view the whole page (BPage9withHscrolling.png). However: (1) Page 9 is wider than the previous pages. I have set Zoom to "Optimal" - I expected that that would ensure I would be able to view the entire width of the document text - without horizontal scrolling being enabled. (2) The rendering of the IRD logo at top centre of the page is different. It is rendered better with horizontal scrolling disabled, but not otherwise! With horizontal scrolling enabled the second horizontal line goes right through the logo. I don't have access to Microsoft word, so I can't comment on what it "should" look like! (Should I raise this as a separate bug?)
MRU->SBA: itis not animport problem, it is a view-issue.
Why do you think this is a bug? What should OOo do instead? Adjusting zoom-level by itself, without the user requesting it? I wouldn't like it when OOo changed zoom-level just because I'm scolling through the document. At most this is a request for enhancement: Zoom "optimal" should adapt to different page-sizes/orientations
I had thought that the "optimal" zoom setting was intended to display pages in an optimal way, specifically ensuring you could see the whole width of the current page. Therefore, when I found that the current page width had changed - but the optimal zoom setting had not adapted appropriately, I felt that this was a bug. I still think this is a bug - as I feel that that the "optimal" zoom setting should honour the concept of ensuring the full width of the page can be displayed. If I change the width of the window I'm looking at the page, then the "optimal" zoom setting changes the effective xoom maginification. Therefore it seems logical to me that if the page size changes and I keep the window the same size, then the "optimal" zoom setting should change the effective xoom maginification to keep the full width of the page visible.
reassigened to requirements
