Description pauln 2002-05-03 14:16:56 UTC
I am running SuSE 7.2, KDE3.0, I install Openoffice as the guidlines on the web
suggest. I am using glibc 2.2.2 kernal 2.4.4.

I run any of the components, soffce, swriter etc and the following occurs:

./soffice
I18N: X Window System doesn't support
locale "LC_CTYPE=en_GB@euro;LC_NUMERIC=C;LC_TIME=C;LC_COLLATE=C;LC_MONETARY=C;LC
_MESSAGES=C;LC_PAPER=C;LC_NAME=C;LC_ADDRESS=C;LC_TELEPHONE=C;LC_MEASUREMENT=C;LC
_IDENTIFICATION=C"
Aborted

I've got exactly the same problem.

Error:
I18N: X Window System doesn't support locale

Aborted

I tried various things last night, it seems to be having a problem
reading the locale.dir file (which it does twice) one thing I've noted
is the locale files seem to be doubled up (one set of value dived by
tabs the other by colons) is this normal?
Comment 3 gee 2002-06-06 14:30:10 UTC
For me, LC_CTYPE is set to en_GB.utf8 with this, starting $HOME/OpenOffice.org1.0/soffice results in this message:
gee@swordfish:~/OpenOffice.org1.0% ./soffice
I18N: X Window System doesn't support locale
"LC_CTYPE=en_GB.utf8;LC_NUMERIC=C;LC_TIME=C;LC_COLLATE=C;LC_MONETARY=C;LC_MESSAGES=C;LC_PAPER=C;LC_NAME=C;LC_ADDRESS=C;LC_TELEPHONE=C;LC_MEASUREMENT=C;LC_IDENTIFICATION=C"
zsh: abort (core dumped)  ./soffice

And after the splash screen it dumps core, which I can send you, it's
about 10M in size.

after `unset LC_CTYPE' it works like a charm.

Comment 4 pauln 2002-06-21 14:32:59 UTC
I have upgraded from SuSE 7.2 to 8.0(clean install actually) and I
have installed OpenOffice.org 1.0 with no problems.
Comment 5 stefan.baltzer 2002-08-19 13:20:20 UTC
When Openoffice.org does not start at all, how should it know that the
user's intention was to use the word processor ;-) => Changed
component to installation. Reassigned to Olaf.
Comment 6 Olaf Felka 2002-08-21 13:49:31 UTC
Hi Philipp,
I can't reproduce this on Suse 7.3. Do have an idea? I don't see a
general proble and a workaround, so I reduce the prio to 3
Comment 7 philipp.lohmann 2002-10-08 12:43:28 UTC
seems to be solved in recent release
Comment 8 michael.bemmer 2003-03-13 09:38:26 UTC
As mentioned on the qa dev list on March 5th I will close all resolved
<wontfix/duplicate/worksforme/invalid> issues. Please see this posting for
details. First step in IssueZilla is unfortunately to set them to verified.
