Description skiani 2002-03-15 13:15:24 UTC
I'm having problems with large spreadsheets that I use for data reduction. I'll
try to attach an example. Here are the problems:
1. Takes very long time to load, even when in native format and with quick
start. Excel(97) takes a couple seconds.
2. Memory usage is very great. 167mb verse 31mb for Excel.
3. Computational performance is about 10x slower than Excel (change the value in
the red cell from 3 to 2 and wait).
4. OOo hangs (with processor pegged) when closing.

thanks,

It won't let me attach such a large file. So download it from here:
http://www.opendesign.org/skiani/Large_SS.zip

I zipped it to make smaller (7mb).

Hi Sepeher,
a.) That's because Excel uses a special feature for storing formulas,
AFAIK we are not able to understand this feature fully, so we couldn't
use it in the filters.

b.) It's the same as above. Excel uses the memory in a better way.

c.) :-(((

d.) could not reproduce but will observe

As Cheryl in Issue 3385 submitted a similsr problem I've to set yours
as double.

Thanks for now.

Frank
