Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 3000
spelling doesn't work
Last modified: 2012-01-29 21:40:52 UTC
Spelling doesn't work in 641C - cannot add custom dic's.
Also, the "dictionary.lst" file does not exist, as documented in the install notes. The install notes are confusing, and/or don't explain my needs well. i need to knowif i can install spelling *only* for a user-by-users basis, if I can have spelling centralized (especially for custom dic files) and if I can have different groups of users use different custom dic files. Re. the install notes, I would be happy to submit a "patch2 for them, but I don't know how the spelling system works.
Hi, That's funny, spelling works fine for me in Oo641C. There is a problem during installation, only under "setup -net" installs, that puts the dictionary.lst and en_US.aff and en_US.dic file in the incorrect place (See Bugzilla Issue 2670). A patch has already been committed to fix this and so the fix should already be in CVS. If you have done a (setup -net) to install one OOo build for many users, the following will workaround the problem: cd MAININSTALLLOCATION/user/wordbook/ cp dictionary.lst $HOME/OpenOffice.org641/user/wordbook/ cp en_US.* $HOME/OpenOffice.org641/user/wordbook/ Then go to $HOME/OpenOffice.org641/user/wordbook/ and use any text editor to edit the dictionary.lst document to add additional dictionaries. See http://whiteboard.openoffice.org/lingucomponent/download_dictionary.html for instructions on how to download and install other dictionaries. The dictionary.lst file is "user" specific so different users can have different dictionaries open. If you would like to share dictionaries across multiple users (instead of installing multiple copies of the dictionaries) simply use symlinks in place of the installing the actual dictionary files. If you need more information about how the dictionary.lst system works please see the dev@sw.openoffice.org and discuss@openoffice.org mailing list archives where a long discussion of the pros and cons of this system is well documented over the last couple of months. Hope this helps, Kevin
Hi Kevin, Thanks for your (fast) response. I did use the -net setup, and your workaround sorted it out. Another issue was that I used the following line in dictionary.lst: DICT en UK en_UK given that the file is called en_UK but in OOo it showed up as "Unkown" I changed to en GB en_UK and all seems to be well. I do suggest changing the name of the file to en_GB for consistency. cheers, Martijn
Hi Martijn, The name change from en_UK to en_GB has already been made on the lingucompnent site. Thanks, Kevin
