Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 25759
Copy / Paste from web page behaviour
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:21 UTC
As a user switching from Microsoft Word, I find the behaviour of "paste" from a web page inconvenient. In Word, paste by default pastes unformatted text. In OOo1.1 the default is html format, so even plain text from a web page gets pasted as a table. The workaround is to use "paste special". So, two suggestions for usability: 1) Change the default paste mode to unformatted text (or provide an preference option) or 2) Add Paste Special to the right mouse button as it has to be used quite often
Yes! Please change the default paste, but without losing the other options (sometimes, but not often, they are best). Sorry, no votes left.

I'd like to comment on thie issue. 1. I was never a big user of MS Word. Instead, I have used a wide variety of text programs over the years, MS Word being just one. 2. Hence, I am OK with the default, so long as an alternative paste is available. It probably should be available in OO. Past as unformatted text. But here is the first workaround: Use Firefox or Mozilla web browsers. Then add the extensions 'Copy as Plain Text' or 'Copy URL+' or both if you like. Then when you highlight, just right click and choose one of these. Second work around: Paste into notepad, then highlight and copy from there to OO. That will strip the formatting. 3. I actually *like* pasting as formatted text as it give me a good representation with links and everything. HOWEVER, it insists on pasting pictures and graphics linked from the websites. That means it may seem to hang while it tries to read in the graphics. If you are on dialup (I am) then more so. Then, it does not keep the graphics, but must re-read them from time to time. I solve this by manually deleting or doing a screen capture of each individual graphic and pasting it over the linked graphic thus making it a local rather than remote image. 4. The last annoying thing is the actual crashes that occur from pasting. See ISSUE# 39959 http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=39959
How about an option to allow the user to decide what the default action is? Then everybody's happy.
