Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 19616
Some embedded EMF files do not convert to PDF properly
Last modified: 2004-04-06 09:20:44 UTC
If I convert an EPS file to EMF using Adobe Illustrator so I can import it into OOo and then convert the document to PDF the graphic comes out looking funny, like there are no curves, only straight edges. The same EPS file converted by Illustrator to WMF works fine. The same EPS converted to EMF by pstoedit seems to work just fine, so this may be considered a bug in Illustrator, but I don't think so because OOo renders the EMF just fine either way.
Created attachment 9350 [details] Page 1 is WMF; Page 2 is EMF (ugly)
Created attachment 9351 [details] The offending EMF file
Created attachment 9352 [details] The equivalent WMF file
I've noticed that the "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" says that the resolution of the EMF file is 420x501 while the WMF is 1250x1472. However since they are a vector format and OOo renders them as such I'd expect the PDF export to render them the same way, with as little loss as possible. Perhaps the resolution is being used to define the frequency of control points?
cp->pl: hard to say what might be the reason for this. please have a look / dispatch.
pl->sj: seems to be a filter problem to me; if emf is not yours, please dispatch further.
Hi Thorsten, Can you please takeover this bug.
Can confirm the problem. I'm pretty sure this is a bug in the PDF writer, which fails to write bezier curves. Instead, only the control polygon is exported.
Philipp, back to you, please have a look.
The reason seems to be that PDFWriter does not write Polygons with Bezier curves. Oops, my fault after all.
adjusting OS and target
fixed in CWS vcl7pp1r3
