Description riccardo 2003-09-03 22:09:36 UTC
Hi, testing the export to pdf function leads to an unreadable pdf, both with
Adobe Acrobat reader and OSX preview.
PLease let me know if you need/want an OOo and related PDF filed with the issue.
I tried both with old documents and new documents.
I tried with Write and Calc docs.
Bye,
Ricky

I don't have OOo 1.1rc3 handy, but I tested your Writer document
with OOo 1.1rc4 on Mac OS X 10.2.6, and had no problems with
Preview or Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0, with the generated PDF.

I have seen lots of other PDF Export bug reports (and fixes), but I
can't currently find one that matches this one as a duplicate.

I will test with OOo 1.1rc3, to make sure the problem did occur,
and now has been fixed.

Added oooqa keyword.

Hi, i had to tag it with rc3 because there is no RC4 tag, but it is an
Rc4 build really.

Were you able to open my sample PDF?
I don't have any problem with other pdfs, not even the ones generated
by OOo 1.0.3 print to pdf,, but just to be sure it's not a PDF reader
issue, you know...
Comment 7 terryt 2003-09-05 09:49:45 UTC
OK, I think this is what I did - used OOo 1.1rc4 to create a PDF
export (default options), and then opened my copy of the PDF
with both Preview and Acrobat Reader. Which worked fine.

I just re-downloaded your PDF, and tried opening it with Acrobat
Reader 5.0 on Mac OS 9.x, and Preview and Acrobat Reader 5.0
on Mac OS X. The file is definitely corrupted.

So, the question is, what is different about your environment or
steps, that you are able to reproduce the generation of a
corrupted PDF from your sample document, while I am unable to
reproduce the problem?

Hi Terry,
first, my build is made "in house", so i don't know how the troubles i
had until got the right configuration influenced a possible build with
errors. To avoid i'm recomiling from scratch, and with all the pacthes
applied.
Source is from CVS, tag Openoffice_1_1rc4, applyed patch form Kevin,
issue 18875
The build i'm testing is the Italian n-l and i have some ttf fonts
imported with spadmin.
Please keep the issue suspended until i finishe dthe fresch compile,
about 96 hours.
THen i'll test again and if problem persist we can start wondering why...
Bye, and thanks,
Ricky

Hi, i finished the new build. The pdf export problem is still present.
Please let me know what can i do to let you see my environmet.
I don't think it's a problem of compilation steps because it all went
smooth, and i followed Dan's instruction on the proting site.
It worked like a charm.
About exporting, i don't do anything more than just clicking on the
export to pdf button.
Bye,
Ricky

When did you grab the OOo 1.1rc4 sources from CVS? I grabbed
mine at least a week ago, so it might not be the absolute latest
version - I will grab the latest sometime this week, and do
another build/test.

Of course I am using a US-English version of OOo with standard
fonts converted by 'fondu'.

Hi, i had the problem on the first build (CVS of RC4 first days of
september) and i still have the problem with the new build (CVS of
last friday)
I tested it with the italian, french and german localized version,
first i had installed some new fonts (ttf) with spadmin, with the last
build i kept only the original bitstream vera.
Thanks for pinting out Dan's issue, i appended a question to that issue..
Bye and thanks,
ricky

Hi,

I haven't quite had time to debug printing problems with RC4 yet, with
or without the patches from Issue 19214. There's a lot of broken
stuff that will have to be tracked down and dealt with.

Thanks Dan.
I'll release my localized binaries so that more people can QA them.
In the meantime i'll build also localized 1.0.3 since i guess it's
better to use that version when we need stability (i'm thinking most
of all about the Expo)
Comment 17 terryt 2003-09-15 09:08:44 UTC
I built from the latest OOo 1.1RC4 sources as of 13 Sep 03, and I
still can't reproduce the problem.
Comment 18 riccardo 2003-09-21 18:53:53 UTC
more news... i tried again today, i had to re-install OSX last week and i want to give a
try... Same exact build, pdf export works, with some documents, does not with some
others, half and half with other again...
I can't understand what's related to.. any guess? Fonts related?
Bye,
Ricky
Comment 19 riccardo 2003-09-30 11:41:51 UTC
Some more news.. the problem is related to what's inside the document.
It appear when i use vera bistream fonts and bullet lists.
I just converted a document i couldn't conver before by switching to helvetica and
removing a bulletted list. worked perfectly..
The funny thing is that it usually works very well when i import and Office document!
Bye,
Ricky

Works with 1.1.1a on OS X, using File->Export to PDF.
