This seems to be very similar to issue 7819, though 1) this is for 1.1RC2
(it was the same in RC1) and 2) it involves more than subscripts.  If I
use Beta 2, formulas look fine.  If I use one of the Release Candidates,
there are extra spaces between some characters, not all.  As you can see
in the URL, the first example (with, for example, x with sub- and superscripts)
looks fine, but the second one does not.

I cannot reproduce the problem with OO 1.1 RC4. Tested on RedHat 7.2.
I entered a formula "x_b sup a = (1+c x) newline k_b sup a = (1+d y)"
to get the structure from the screenshot (URL). Do you still have the
problem with RC4 or 5? If so, please re-open this issue and describe
the way you entered the formula.
