Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 17441
Smart error for Cannot Find UNICOWS.DLL
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:53:51 UTC
OOo should check for UNICOWS.DLL, and if not available, recommend the user install the package. It could even offer a clickable link to download it. Many average users might give up during an installation error. Many may not read the README file.
Fixed in RC2. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 12788 ***
Why should setup 'know' where to find this download? M$ has changed the url while OOo 1.1 was growing. The link in the readme was incorrect. "Many may not read the README file." -> I can't help! It's up to them to find out!
It would at least be helpful to get a message like this: "Please see the enclosed README file for information on installing UNICOWS.DLL." > It's up to them to find out I suggest that making a software easier to use will make it more accepted. One thing that makes some software difficult to use is dead-end error messages. Error messages with suggestions would solve many problems quicker. Thank you for your work with OOo BTW. I like OOo and hope to deploy 1.1 on 15 workstations replacing M$ on most.
