Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 16875
importing word 2000 doc: Line Numbers not 100% prefect
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
word option: Page Setup -> Line Numbers -> Add -> Restart each Page without a header everything is ok! but with header or footer its like this: [ { 1 header } 1 Page 1 2 3 4 hello world ] [ { 2 header } 1 Page 2 2 3 eof ] [ ] : One Page { } : Header the line numbering in the page is ok, but on the header another line numbering is choosen and this numbering does not restart at each page. 1. would it be better to have the same line numbering like in the whole page: [ { 1 header } 2 Page 1 3 4 5 hello world ]

Please Attach the documents which make this problem, so we can test it. (Without the documents, we cannot confirm the problem easily) Don't forget to cut other part of the documents, so the file size is small, but we still able to see the problem. Please try using the latest OOo 1.1 Rc4, Your version already old enough, and many bug fixes since your version and 1.1 RC4. If the problem still happend in 1.1 RC4 please report back
MRU->AMA: this is like the problem we talked about a few weeks ago (the way line numbers should act, when header/footers are available). But in my opinion, header footers should never be intended in line numbering, and not as Patrick proposed.
Yes, I agree, lines inside header/footer shouldn't be numbered.
Created attachment 9694 [details] Zipped Word file - shows numbering problems
I attached a file that is as small as I could get it in Word and show the problem. The header and footer areas have their own numbering, but even worse is that the regular text area number restarts on every page, instead of continuing on from before.
Note that this was using RC5 on Windows 2000.
Two bugs/problems: 1. Does it make sense to count line inside header/footer? Of course you may disable it via paragraph style "header", but the idea is to suppress line numbering in header/footer completely. This has be decided. AFAIK we don't need line numbering inside header/footer for interoperability or do we, Caolan? 2. An imported document seems always to have "Start each page" for line numbering even the original says "Continous"?! An import problem, hopefully easy to fix, Caolan?
1. Word doesnt number anything in headers/footers with linenumbering, so for interoperability its best disabled there. 2. Is known and done asissue #17547#
minor compatibility issue, can be workarounded, thus targeted to "OO later".
