I *just* downloaded the rc1 build, certainly after the "it is now
fixed" post below, and it still doesn't work.

Is it perhaps fixed in the latest nightly or something? If so, it sure
would be nice if the binary was updated.

If not, it apparently isn't fixed. I get this:

bash-2.04$ ./install --interactive
Installation starting, please be patient ...
glibc version: 2.2.4
/tmp/sv004.tmp/setup.bin: relocation error:
/tmp/sv004.tmp/libvcl645li.so: undefined symbol: FT_Activate_Size

See Issue 16891. The problem is that the OOo installer has its own libfreetype.so.6, but
the runtme linker ld.so uses the one in /usr/lib. I solved the problem by temporarily
renaming /usr/lib/libfreetype*. But I would hardly call this a "solution".

Is fixed in the current inhouse version, next OOo 1.1 release should
contain the fix.

I just tried to install RC2 -> the same error.
Comment 15 jonhgh 2003-07-28 22:24:40 UTC
I also experienced the problem in RC2. (I'm using RedHat 7.2). I tried
kub's workaround of renaming /usr/lib/ibfreetype* - then OpenOffice
installed and worked OK, but I found other things had broken (e.g.
xterm) so I put the libraries back as they were.

I was able to overcome this problem by adding the following to my
/usr/local/OpenOffice.org1.1RC/program/soffice script:

    LD_PRELOAD=/usr/local/OpenOffice.org1.1RC/program/libfreetype.so.6
    export LD_PRELOAD

Hope this info is useful while we're waiting for the next release.

I have tryed the workaround from Jonathan, with no succes.

I have changed the name for original library, instaled the product,
and then re-changed the name for library.

It work, I think, but it's not sure.
