Let us consider the following formula:

left lbrace sqrt{a} cdot sqrt{b} right rbrace

With OOo 1.1beta on Linux, sqrt, cdot and right rbrace are not shown
correctly; I have replaced opens___.ttf (Open Symbols True Type Fonts)
with the same file taken from OOo 1.0.2 (the version bundled on Mandrake
Linux 9.1) and now everything seems OK.

On mswindows, I do not have this problem, but I explicitly remark that,
when the setup has asked me "do you want to replace \windows\Fonts\opens___.ttf
etc etc?" I have replied "No", i.e. on mswindows I'm using the opens___.ttf
bundled with mswindows, not the one bundled with OOo 1.1 beta.

I have reported this issue w.r.t. the formula component, even though it does
not seem an issue of the formula component, because on
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/enter_bug.cgi
I haven't found a more suited component for this report.
