File>New>Formula

In the blank screen type sqrt 2
The square root symbol does not display correctly, only the horizontal bar
shows, with a blank rectangle displayed in front instead of the tick.

square root display bug in formula editor 1.1 stable and 644m1
Comment 2 thomas.lange 2003-03-21 14:35:18 UTC
The square look like a font registration problem.
Does it occur for other Math characters also?
For example when using "int a" or "hat a"?

However in OO 644m4 everything is fine.
(I do not have OO644m1 available right now...)

Comment 3 thomas.lange 2003-03-22 08:39:55 UTC
TL->MRU: Please check.
Comment 4 alex.thurgood 2003-03-25 15:43:02 UTC
Just downloaded and reinstalled the latest beta 1.1. The problem is
still there. In fact it appears that the square root screen
representation is made up of two parts, the tick, and a horizontal bar
across the top of the figure. The tick mark is missing and only the
horizontal bar is present.

System : Linux Mandrake 9.0 (latest security patches applied, no
cooker), OOo stable beta 1.1

Alex.
Comment 5 rk 2003-03-27 02:01:52 UTC
I have exactly the same problem with version 1.1 beta, running
Mandrake 9.1

Thank you, thank you !! Phew ! I was beginning to think I was the only
one. Can anyone from the developer team confirm ?

Alex

I can repruduce this bug with OOo beta 1.1 on Debian Woody, SuSE 7.3
and also on Windows 2000.
Comment 8 bigserpent 2003-03-28 06:47:38 UTC
I've just uploaded a screenshot of the editor and the result to the
issue No. 12726, where I'd submitted this bug.
Reproduced at Windows 2000 SP3.
Comment 9 michael.ruess 2003-03-28 10:31:05 UTC
MRU->IH: The new OpenSymbol font seems to be messed up. The problem
only occurs when using the new OpenSymbol and also it is about 55k
smaller than the older one.

Workaround to replace OpenSymbol font with the one from 643c buld
works for me.

Does it worth to put the link to the font at the main page of the OO
site? The problem can affect a lot of people, especially because the
presented build is beta, not developer build and many people will use it.
Comment 13 rk 2003-03-28 19:21:04 UTC
Could anyone please post a link/comment - how to transfer fonts from
643C to 1.1 beta?

I copied (over-wrote) OpenOffice.org644/share/fonts/truetype by the
one from 643C. Now all the symbols are messed up.

Thanks!

I am faced with the same problem as RK's.

Someone could attach here a proper OpenSymbol file to be used with
LINUX (not Windows!!) for immediate workaround?
Comment 15 nospam 2003-03-31 16:34:59 UTC
IH: I have created a new version (1.6) of the OpenSymbol font that
seems to work correct. I have given my new font to our QA people and
if they say it is ok I will check in.
It is no good to use the old one because the old one has wrong CMAP
tables. I had many bugs for the old font so I created a new one, that
has unfortunately some problems with the private use symbol area of
the font. I hope my latest version is a good fix for this.

Dear IH,
Thanks for providing the font file.
It looks OK with the sqrt on my Linux platform.
Allow me some time to double-check other symbols.
Comment 19 rk 2003-03-31 21:27:41 UTC
Thanks IH,

As far as I can tell, new symbol font is fine. All my old files are
opening correctly :-)

On WinXP, OOo1.1RC3, my OpenSymbol font is buggy - specifically, I can
not get any bracket or brace symbols to print out.

Using the OpenSymbol font file that calme with 1.0.3.1 fixes this problem.
Comment 42 adfernandes 2003-08-18 16:16:06 UTC
Argh. To make a very long story short, after *mulitple* reboots, the
RC3 font, as delivered, works correctly.

Further investigation leads me to believe this bug was the result of
my WinXP being flakey, and NOT a problem with the OOo-1.1RC3 font file.

Sigh.
