Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 13527
Poor e-mail 'From' and 'Subject' fields
Last modified: 2017-05-20 10:27:49 UTC
Concerning the e-mail notifications produced by IssueZilla: There is no way to tell what component a bug refers to without opening the message, because the Subject field is like [Issue 9372] - Font size 11 pt in Styles aren't saved in Word format It would be better as [Writer Issue 9372] - Font size 11 pt in Styles aren't saved in Word format Currently, IssueZilla produces From fields like issues@www.openoffice.org This is rather lengthy for my e-mailer's From column. Better: OO Issues <issues@www.openoffice.org> or even OpenOffice Issues <issues@www.openoffice.org>

Request 1 - Adding component to Subject field: It would not be possible to add the component name as a prefix to the subject field. An alternative would be add the project name to identify the project from which the IZ has been generated. On openoffice.org, the component name is almost the same as the project name, so adding project name as prefix should help. To add the project name in the subject, the email notification template for IZ needs to be edited. As an example, for mails from www projects, the steps to edit the template are as follows: 1. Go to http://www.openoffice.org/issues/edittemplates.cgi 2. Select the template "'New/changed issue' notification template" to edit. 3. On the resulting, Edit templates page, add the token %currentprojectname% to the Subject field. 4. Click on 'Update template' button. The same can be followed for other projects as well by replacing 'www' with the project name in the URL given above. Request 2 - Adding Real Name to 'From' field: The mails sent for IZ updates no longer have the From address as 'issues@www.openoffice.org'. username@openoffice.org is used instead. If you wish to change it to the format: Real Name <email address>, then you would need to edit the email notification template mentioned above. Adding the token %currentuserrealname% to the From field should help. The From field in the email template should be of the format: %currentuserrealname% <%currentuseremail%> Currently, only an email address can be used in the From field. We would be allowing the Real name to be added as per the request in issue 68098. This will be fixed in a future release. Hence, marking the issue as Resolved Later.
