When Openoffice displays the splash screen during startup I am completely 
unable to get any work done the 30s or so it is on screen.

Most GUIs have startup notification, and Openoffice should honor them. Also, 
Openoffice should maintain consistency (if the GUI has no startup notification, 
then none of the programs should notify).

At the very least, an option to disable it could be made available.
