Description guido.pinkernell 2003-04-08 10:04:15 UTC
People seem not to know that pdf-export offers various compression formats. This
could be due to clicking on the pdf-export icon which, by default, uses screen
optimized graphic compression. I have two suggestions that would put the
pdf-export options into a more prominent place:

At present, in File : Export ..., the compression formats selection window comes
up *after* asking for a filename. Normally, having entered a name and pressed
Enter, one would expect nothing except save the file. It would be consistent
with users´ expectations to display compression selection before enter file name
window.

And think about providing a compression selection after a longclick on the
pdf-export icon.

Hi,

I definitely agree with Guido on this one.

I think the developers have got the sequence around the wrong way.
It should be:

Select File -> Export to PDF
Enter the parameters
Enter the file name and save.

When I first used this facility I even raised the issue that I
thought there was a bug because I could find the parameters again.
The last thing people do in the sequence is select save. Not enter
the parameters.

Hope my feedback helps.

Kelvin

cp->pl: please check this out. the spec says that the pdf options have to appear
*befor* the "file save" dialog but in pdf01 it's still the old behavior. is that
you (or SJ) ?
Comment 15 philipp.lohmann 2004-08-02 13:57:55 UTC
pl->sj: this is for you i guess ? Or does each application have to change this ?
Comment 16 sven.jacobi 2004-08-02 15:34:21 UTC
sj->mav: Can you please takeover this Issue, as already discussed the change
takes place in sfx2. Please ask CP or MMP if you have any further questions
depending to the specification or integration date, thanks.
Comment 17 thorsten.ziehm 2004-09-02 15:26:01 UTC
Because of limited resources we have decided, that this feature has to be
shifted to target 'OOo later'. If it is possible to find somebody in the
community to implement it, perhaps we can integrate it in OOo 2.0. Currently we
have to retarget this task.

Comment 20 christof.pintaske 2004-09-10 14:05:19 UTC
cp->mav: As discussed with Thorsten Ziehm, we try to smooth the rough edges in
pdf export. please fix the order of dialogs as initially planned. It would be
great if you could do so on CWS pdf02
Comment 21 mikhail.voytenko 2004-09-11 12:33:35 UTC
It makes no sence to fix the problem until mav09 cws is integrated since the
code that will be affected by the fix is hardly changed in this child workspace.
Comment 22 Mathias_Bauer 2004-10-21 17:08:45 UTC
retargetted due to heavy workload
Comment 23 hornberg 2005-03-12 00:40:59 UTC
I support this: first prompt for options, then for filename.

Comment 25 philipp.lohmann 2006-10-23 19:09:00 UTC
This is not blocked by 12693. When the compression level is asked is not tied to
how the UI asking the resolution actually looks like.
Comment 26 Mathias_Bauer 2007-02-15 17:25:28 UTC
This is an ugly quirk in one of the most important OOo features. We should
definitely fix it in the next possible release.
Comment 27 mikhail.voytenko 2007-03-12 16:19:15 UTC
Fixed in fwkdbdesign01 cws.
Comment 28 zhoubo.shi 2007-03-13 03:03:18 UTC
I agree with this one. I think it is the better to appended the preview of the
pdf-export

Verified with cqws fwkdbdesign01 = ok; Range of options and save as has changed.
