Description gaute 2003-04-01 11:31:18 UTC
Writer should be able to rotate images (and perhaps other objects). Rotating via Draw is often possible, but it's an awkward and resource-intensive workaround.

As a sidenote, I remember that old Word Perfect for DOS was able to rotate images. I used to make fun of more recent MS Word versions because they couldn't do such a simple thing. Now, I'm surprised to find that OpenOffice.org can't do it either.

Set to "NEW"
Comment 3 bettina.haberer 2003-07-08 15:03:01 UTC
Yes, a long wished feature. Currently we just support rotation by 90°
via dialog.

The graphic layer in Wordprocessor is no going to be enhanced for Q.

I have to correct one comment. Writer has the possibility to flip graphics
horizontally and vertically, the used word "rotation" was wrong. 90° rotation is
possible in the competing product.

Any news for this one? We would like to change our whole manual creation process
to OOo because of its "include" functions, but in a first review the "rotate
image" function was missed.
Comment 8 r_vinoya 2004-12-13 08:54:53 UTC
I can rotate image in Calc (ver1.1.1), but in writer I can't. That's all.
Comment 9 timi_openoffice 2005-05-30 11:25:45 UTC
When implementing rotation of images in Writer, it would be very nice when the
rotated image has direcly the corresponding contur, so that you don't need to
define an imagemap (how it now when you workaround via Draw).

Comment 14 felixat 2006-03-08 15:24:39 UTC
is there a problem on implementing this feature in writer or is the priority to
low to be noticed ? A naive user (like me) could think that the funcionality is
present in OOo but the menu entry was "forgotten" to add. There was a small
riot on this topic on a heise.de forum because nobody seemed to believe that the
feature realy is missing. (some thought that it is just well hidden)

maybe it would be enough to add a menu entry to create a draw object out of a d
image imported to writer ?

Based on:
  1. the number of duplicates of this bugs already filed
  2. the definitions and examples of priority levels given in
     http://qa.openoffice.org/scdocs/ddIssues_EnterModify.html#priority
(Functionality which is not available, but a workaround exists)
I suggest this bug's priority is reassigned to P3.

Hello utomo99
RFEs with the keyword rfe_eval_ok are not assigned elswhere and not sent around.
These pre-approved issues are already on focus in our team and currently get
handled for a final decision.

This should at least be mentioned in the help-file documentation including a
description of the workaround. Very frustrating to have to look all over the
place for such a basic feature. Unbelievablé, that this issue has been on here
for 5 years! (see also 3545)
