Description mmeeks 2004-09-30 09:50:29 UTC
So - SourceCast likes you to re-login multiple times per day (as previously
discussed / denied etc. etc. at length ).

Anyway this (seriously irritating problem) could be made somewhat less painful
by the (nice) top right corner 'Login' thing - _but_ currently that login
submission process takes you not to a re-loaded, authenticated version of the
current page - but to the front-page.

Thus: my daily bug examining grind looks like:

visit: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=34780
[ realise I can't enter any comments & have to log in again, again ] - unfixable
notice firefox (or whatever) has auto-filled in my top-secret password/account
hit 'login' button: get sent to the front page I'm not interested in
hit 'back' - get the same old page from the browser cache
hit 're-load' - get the new, now-authenticated version.

What I would like:

visit: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=34780
[ realise I can't enter any comments & have to log in again, again ] - unfixable
notice firefox (or whatever) has auto-filled in my top-secret password/account
hit 'login' button: bug re-loads in authenticated mode

Michael,
This, as with other SC features you dislike, is actually not a SC feature: it is a characteristic of the way
we (Sun, OOo) have set up the environment. Because many pages are staticized (snapshot of CVS is
published) and some are necessarily dynamic, including login, my start, etc., there is a fair amount of
confusion.

FWIW, the login expires about several hours (I forget the precise number). We have also set the
destination page after login to be the user's start page. We can make it "community home," which I
believe is the OOo homepage.

BTW, you probably know this...

You will know if you are in a staticized page if you know you are logged (say you just logged in) but the
upper right indicates you are not. That disparity is an effect of the staticization; you are still logged in.

To confirm, go to any issue page, like this one. You should see your username as logged in in the
upper right.

BTW, the experience you recount is I think a Firefox feature. It doesn't happen with my browsers
(Safari, mainly).

If you are curious to see how SourceCast functions independent of OOo's configurations, visit the Tigris
site. See <http://www.tigris.org/>

meanwhile, I'll see about changing the landing page for logged-in users.

cheers

Changing the landing page for logged in users is not useful to me :-)
The bug page cannot be 'staticised' AFAICS since it is the result of a bugzilla
'show_bug.cgi' CGI perl script.

To repeat the problem in a more simple statement:

a) I am being patient and accepting that the mind-mangled
login-every-time-you-use-IZ feature is a wonderful thing

b) I wish to edit a bug - I don't care whatsoever about my 'front-page' or
whatever it is.

c) I go to view the bug; I notice I have my [hyper-secret] login-details filled
in at the top right;

** At this point I want to press 'Login' and return to the same bug page [
compare with point c) ] - but now able to actually enter some useful data [ NB.
this is why I went to that bug in the 1st place ].

** Instead - I get shunted to some page I care nothing about, have to hit
'back', then have to hit 'shift-reload', now I can edit the bug - this adds
unnecessary pain to my life - on an extremely regular basis.

ie. the 'Login' button should be page specific, and post authentication re-load
the current page.

HTH :-)

mmeeks: Logout can just go back to HTTP->Referrer.

Yes, that page is not staticized.

Back to Louis.

I'll route this to CN for evaluation.
Support: how feasible would it be make it so that instead of being sent either to My StarPage or to the
staticized OOo Homepage (community home) we simply stay where we are but logged in, the page
magically refreshed? I note that
this is the behavior, of some other SourceCast instantiations.

thanks
louis

*** Issue 35086 has been marked as a duplicate of this issue. ***
Comment 6 lsuarezpotts 2004-10-07 19:15:59 UTC
this seems to be a duplicate of the earlier http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=10122
Let's not quite close this, however.

This is a known issue and has been addressed in some form in the past. The
issue here has to do with the fact that OOo allows guests to browse the details
of projects. At present this enhancement is being considered for the hudson
release of the software.
Comment 8 peschtra 2005-01-18 23:46:57 UTC
IMO, Louis's October 6th suggestion would be PERFECT!
Comment 9 Unknown 2006-01-05 21:51:00 UTC
This is considered as an enhancement in the future release Hood-H2 of 2006 by
the product management.

pjanik: Michael, you have received the sources so you can fix it yourself?

mmeeks: Pavel: of course not.

pjanik: so this means you can't fix it.

mmeeks: right.

pjanik: so why they assign it back to you?

Virtual dialog, back to support.

Please introduce new target with that software and set it.

Comment 11 Unknown 2006-07-24 22:19:20 UTC
CN has put in some internal branding changes on the site.
Can someone please verify if this is working better now?
Comment 12 pavel 2006-07-25 09:54:11 UTC
Looks like after logging at the issue page, we are now back on that issue page.

Thanks!
