Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 99573
No option to change / edit / check the path of a media file
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:05:11 UTC
After you add a media object, there is no way to know which file was inserted, or to edit the path of the inserted object. The context menu doesn't provide a Properties option, nor is there an option on the media toolbar. Also the linked file doesn't show up in the Edit, Links dialog.
Please add a step by step description. What do you insert, which path do you mean? The media toolbar opens with tools/media player or by doubleclicking the object.
I insert a e.g. a movie through Insert, Movies and Sound. When I select the newly inserted object, the media playback toolbar becomes visible. The inserted movie is linked to the presentation, its content is not embedded into the presentation. So, the presentation stores the path to the original media file. This path cannot be edited (e.g. switching to another file), nor viewed (if you want to check, which file you have inserted).
Thanks for the comment. Reassigned.
Actually, you could also describe the problem from another perspective: If you insert a picture from file, you have the option to link or embed the picture. (link checkbox in filepicker). With movie files or plugins, you don't have this option, the file is always linked, but this is not indicated to the user in any way. A picture in writer has the Picture... item in its context menu, and it is possible to edit the file link there. In Draw/Impress this option is also missing for pictures; still you have the possibility to edit the link via Edit, Links. For plugin / media shapes, there is no option to edit the file link. Ideally, all object types should provide the same options: 1. Provide the option to be embedded or linked. 2. Linked files should be listed in Edit, Links 3. The context menu of the object should have some "Properties" item, which should provide a way to change a file link.
Encountered the same problem and spend quite some time searching for the original location of an embedded movie. The lack of any way to modify/view links to embedded movie or sound files make Impress files non portable. Uniform behaviour with included images ("Edit -> links") is highly desirable.
