Description Unknown 2002-12-04 19:15:27 UTC
As a replacement for MS Office, I'm duly impressed with OpenOffice. One
feature which doesn't seem to exist though which makes it an incomplete
substitute is the Paste Format function.
If this feature exists, please let me know - but I could find no reference to
it in the online documentation.
If it doesn't, please add it!

dvo->redwiz: There's a very similar feature, but it's not called that
and operates a little different.

You can use the 'stylist' (F11) to create a style based on the current
selection (use 2nd icon from right, top row). You can then assign this
style either manually or with the format brush (3rd icon from right).

I think this pretty much does what you are looking for. If so, please
mark the issue resolved. If not, please be more specific. :-)

Daniel:
Thanks for your input. You're right - it's similar, but different.
In MS-Word, I can apply one line's formatting to another in just 3
clicks - nothing saved or named or created. With a couple more, I
can apply the same formatting to multiple (non-contiguous) lines or
paragraphs. Here's how Word's help describes the feature:

---
Copy character and paragraph formats

1	Select the text that has the formatting you want to copy.
2	Click Format Painter , and then select the text where you
want to apply the formatting.

Tip To copy the selected formatting to several locations, double-
click Format Painter. Click the button again when you're finished.
---

It's a feature that may not be well known, but is certainly extremely
useful and powerful when applied, and I tend to use it often, and
would love to see the same functionality here.

The 'component' of this issue is 'word processor' but this should
apply to Calc as well (copy/paste format works in Word and Excel)
