Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 98011
[Notes2] Notes are unreadable if you use a light font
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
I use the GNOME theme Cillop-Midnite. It uses dark backgrounds and light text. The main view of OOo3 uses these settings correctly. The new notes, on the other hand, have their background colors set automatically. Light-colored text is not readable on these backgrounds. I would like to have an option to have the note color appear as the *outline* of the note, rather than the background. Failing that, being able to arbitrarily set the background colors of the notes would also fix this issue.
Well these days, I noticed a lot of people using a dark background on Gnome. Why? Is that for accessibility reasons or because "it looks good"? Nevertheless, please add a screenshot. We have already done a lot of research for the "normal" use: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Notes2_Design_MainColors And I don't think we can catch every widget, theme or color scheme. I also don't think we need to add "yet another option" for an individual setting of the users' color. But please, provide a screenshot.
Created attachment 59336 [details] Text that's hard to read on a yellow background.
Another option is to force the notes to always use black text regardless of the current settings. That would be ugly, but readable.
As to why I use a dark theme, it's because I often use my computer in an otherwise dark room. If the screen is bright white, it makes my eyes hurt.
Well, the problem is: - have you an eye disability? So you use a high contrast theme - do you think it looks good? So you have to live with what the theme forces. "light" looks good but doesn't suite to every backgrounds. I just wanted to write "WONTFIX" but indeed you (or I) may like to work with, let's say 255 255 158 font color (exactly the default note background). So there is nothing to see in the note while you have no special eye problem. So, yes, this makes sense to have a "Set color for this user" or whatever. But understand that it is a very special case we won't deal with for a while...
Okay, then... what about just forcing all the notes to use a black font?
mod->logicaldash: was the color of the note text choosen automatically or set manually by yourself inside the note? If this was done automatically by using the theme font color, you can set it manually to black again. We are looking into using styles inside notes as well to make this more convinient.
@es, @logicaldash: If the notes background color is set by OOo, the notes text color should not be system or theme dependent. It should be always a dark color. And IMHO this wouldn't be ugly at all. In any case, this would be the logically correct approach. And it should be a very small fix.
