Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 9733
Install fails on RedHat 8.0
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:53:51 UTC
I believe I followed the install directions correctly. When I run "./soffice", a dialog box pops up with the Open Office image in it. A few seconds later (maybe 5 seconds), that dialog is replaced by a dialog box with the title bar: "OpenOffice.org 1.0.1" ! An unrecoverable error has occurred. All modified files have been saved and can probably be recovered at program restart. OK When I click "OK", the terminal where I typed: "./soffice" has the word Abort on a line by itself. It would be nice if it said "see the log ... for more details". I'm running RedHat Linux 8.0 on a Dell dual 600Mhz processor system. I have 256Mbytes of real memory, and two Gbytes of swap space, with about 1.5Gbytes of swap unused. The machine has been up (and used) for 45 days, so I believe the memory to be good. I have at least 800Mbytes of free disk space on all disks, 3.6Gbytes free on the disk with OpenOffice installed, and 7.5Gbytes free on the the disk with my home directory (where my personal install lives). Doing "java -version" produces: java version "1.4.1_01" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1_01-b01) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1_01-b01, mixed mode) I am willing to work with someone to resolve/test this problem. Any new information on this error? I'm having the same problem on a RedHat 8.0 system. I've tried both v1.0.0 and v1.0.1. Running "install" unpacks all files fine into /usr/local/OpenOffice1.0. I have tried all iterations of: * a workstation install or a full local install * choosing to use the JDK 1.0.4 and choosing not to use java * running "setup" and "soffice" as a regular user or as root Each time I have uninstalled before attempting a different configuration. Getting such a generic error "An unrecoverable error has occurred" with no log or other information as to why it crashed is frustrating. Does OpenOffice log startup info into a logfile somewhere?
I had a similar problem but found a fix. For some reason the install doesn't work from this site but if you uninstall everything and then install it using the rpm from RedHat, it works. Why? I don't know. I found the solution here: http://www.windowsquestions.org/questions/history/33680
