I'm using Mandrake 9.0 and initialy everthing worked really fine. I really 
love these applications. Recently I've done an update from one of Mandrake's 
mirrors, to fix a few problems on other applications in that distro. After 
that update I can't start any OpenOffice application anymore, and I don't 
recall having seen any fix for OpenOffice. Could it be possible that another 
library or something else that I've updates needs a fix ?

Looks like a problem with glibc 2.3.1?
I can't see this as an Ooo problem: the update has made some
incompatible changes that prevents you from starting OOo.
