Add Malagasy,Plateau_Madagascar [plt-MG] locale data.

I was trying to add a dictionary for malagasy mg_MG but there seems to be no way of accessing the dictionary, once installed, as there seems to be no locale setting for malagasy. Using OOO 3.0 on Kubuntu 8.04 using deb packages downloaded from ooo.org
Have you tried this with OOo 3.0.1?
I had not tried with 3.0.1 but I downloaded it just now and updated my installation then installed the dictionary again. It does not show up under options>language settings>writing aids Nor is there a Malagasy (Madagascar) local under options>language settings>lanaguages>locale which I assume is why the dictionary is not recognised

I am now using 3.1.0 and no local for madagascar hear either
update Still can't use a Malagasy dictionary to spell check as Malagasy still is not in the list of languages or the list of locals (I assume these lists are the same - Toos>options>language settings) OOO 3.1.1 on Kubuntu 9.10 (using the packages in ubuntu repository minus the kde integration package) If this is an unconfirmed bug, what more information is needed to help confirm it?
Malagasy is simply not implemented yet. I will take this issue as a request to add the necessary entries to the language list box, IDs and ISO code mappings. Adding a language to the language list box makes it available for character attribution and spell-checking. Availability of spell checker, hyphenation and thesaurus of course depends on the installed dictionaries. To be able to fully support it as a locale, including number formats and calendar data, and having it selectable as default document language we would need a locale data file. 'mg' is a macrolanguage code, there are several individual Malagasy languages, see http://www.sil.org/iso639-3/documentation.asp?id=mlg Which would it be?
sorry I had not realised another comment had been added. Good question, when I started trying to make a Malagasy dictionary I had not realised there were so many variations (not speaking any Malagasy) The dictionary I tried to convert to an ooo3 format package was was this one - version 0.03 of myspell-mg. Taken from here hunspell dicitonaries: http://ftp.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/contrib/dictionaries/mg_MG.zip which contains no indication in its readme as to what variant of malagasy it is Searching on google I can find this dictionary in very many places but none mention what variant of Malagasy it is Sorry that is not much help is it? I will show the word list to a Malagasy speaker tomorrow if i can catch him and see if he can shed any light on it
Ok, so my Malagasy colleague tells me that the dictionary I have is in Plateau Malagasy [plt] I have just had a look at http://www.it46.se/localegen/ and I will try to sit down tomorrow, with my colleague (if he has time), and generate the locale data file

Warning: Don't forget to adapt corresponding FormatCode elements when changing separators. Warning: FormatCode formatindex="12" for currency uses parentheses for negative amounts, which probably is not correct for locales not based on en_US. Warning: FormatCode formatindex="13" for currency uses parentheses for negative amounts, which probably is not correct for locales not based on en_US. So, ListSeparator is to be changed to ';' semicolon. What about Time100SecSeparator? I think it should be the same as the DecimalSeparator, a ',' comma in this case, but some locales indeed have different separators. The currency formats for negative amounts usually are not the ones with parentheses, usually a minus sign is preceded, but sometimes goes also between the currency symbol and the amount, or may be placed at the end, and there may be spaces in between or not. Other findings: The currency code for Ariary should be MGA instead of MGF, MGF would be the old Madagascar Franc. quarter1Word to quarter4Word and abbreviations are not translated. The Eras are not translated.
Hi Eike sorry, no I had not signed a agreement - will sign and send tomorrow when I have access to a printer and scanner. I will also check on the items you highlighted - I did not think we entered negative currency as (123) so that may have been a slip up, I will check tomorrow. The quarters were a problem, my colleague was really not sure what was used but thought best to leave as they were. I remember discussing eras - AD and anno domini were no problem (though anno domini rarely used). BC was used but not expanded to anything else as far as my colleague knew.
Ok I have checked up - the currency was a slip up somewhere, sorry about that. For negative currency it should be - 123 Ar. (minus space amount space currency) I am sure you are right about the currency code being MGA, searching on the web seems to agree with that. Just to confirm thousands separator is a dot . and the decimal separator is a comma , but the separator for fractional seconds is a dot . with colons : between the hours:minutes:seconds.fractionalsecond Best to put the era BC (abbreviation) as BC in full as well, that seems to be what is used (though someone else may think different) Nothing further to add on the quarters Hope this is enough for you to make some progress (SCA signed and sent today as slight scanner qlitch yesterday)

Please note that the dictionary needs to indicate that it supports plt-MG instead of mg-MG. Also, the old (OOo2.4) simple dictionary list is not supported anymore, dictionaries are now to be installed as extensions, see http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Extension_Dictionaries
The dictionary is done and has the correct plt-MG changes made to it. I am assuming the locale files will be in 3.3 but not make it into an update of 3.2? Is that a correct assumption? Thought I should check before I upload to the extensions site. Fortunately the dictionary files were on my computer at work as well as my laptop that got stolen this weekend! Many thanks indeed Peter
