If you look at Apple's UI Guidelines section referenced in the URL field of this bug, you will see that they 
distinguish two styles of extending a selection: the Addition Model and the Fixed-Point Model. The 
standard on the Mac is the Addition Model, and the Fixed-Point Model is very un-Mac-like.

I suggest that OO should implement both models, selectable by a preference, and that on the Mac the 
default model should be Addition.
