Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 9445
OpenOffice crashes when I open a Word 97 Document
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:56:16 UTC
I am running OpenOffice on my laptop under Suse Linux 8.1 professional. I am using the inbuilt version of OpenOffice packaged with Suse with no changes. My Problem ------------ At work I have to use MS Office 97 and sometimes have to edit documents at home. I am also doing a MSc part time and have to share documents with my class mates, who all use various flavours of MS Word and powerpoint. I do not want to go back to Windows and MS office on my PC as I am very happy with Linux and OpenOffice. But whenever I open a MS Word doc my OpenOffice dies with a critical error, and when you click OK the package no longer runs. I have read the help files that state that the Autopilot for the Document Converter should be used, but whenever I click on it - nothing happens - no screens appear.
The solution for the AutoPilot problem is in the SuSE database: http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/kotyzov_oo-autopilot.html If you are still having problems opening documents after applying their fix, please open a new issue and attach the document to it. Thank you, Liz
As mentioned on the qa dev list on March 5th I will close all resolved <wontfix/duplicate/worksforme/invalid> issues. Please see this posting for details. First step in IssueZilla is unfortunately to set them to verified.
