Description cluelessjack 2008-09-27 00:05:41 UTC
I have a 52KB Writer file (*.odt) created with V2.4 that has a form with lots of
form fields. It loads fine with OO V 2.4.1. However, it takes forever (> 10
minutes) to load in V3.0 RC2 -- sometimes it just hangs and I have to kill OO.
The CPU/RAM usage shoots up (by over 50%). I run Windows Vista on a HP Compaq
Presario Intel Pentium Dual Core with 1GB RAM (CPU is 1.7 GHZ).

If and when the file loads, however, performance of the Basic Macros (which
process the forms and the associated database, Base, contents) is comparable to
V2.4.1 . So, the loading portion is the problem. As far as I know, no macros are
run at load-time. All macros are initiated after the file is loaded.

I know another person who has the exact same issue (10+ minutes loading time)
with this file and Oo 3 RC1 (so this is not just a RC2 issue). His CPU/RAM is
better than mine, and he is running XP. So, this is one thing you can't blame on
Vista

No such issues are found on smaller files with forms; so it is just the sheer
number of form fields (something like 600 fields) that seems to overwhelm Oo 3,
even though the document itself is not that big. (I have no trouble using Oo 3
on fairly large docs with images but no forms.) But then Oo 2.4.1 loads this
file very quickly. What gives?

I would like to upload the file. But I can't seem to find a way to do this. I am
using the google chrome browser. thanks.

I decided not to attach the file in question since it has sensitive data
(painful to de-sensitize). I am sure you can replicate this with any other file
with lots of fields. If not, let me know, and I try to strip out the sensitive
stuff and upload. thanks.
