Description Unknown 2002-11-19 11:15:08 UTC
While importing a word document containing headings and a toc the toc contained
a few empty
lines, these were caused by additonal whitespace(TABs) in (after) the headings.

Proposed fix, clear all whitespace after headings while converting.

This should be easily reproducable, but I don't have word (without rebooting)

Lett me know if you need an example doc.

Example:

1.1 heading 2
1.2 heading 2<tab><tab><tab>
2.1 heading 2

something like this.

Thank you for using and supporting OOo.

Please attach a small, simple file that consistently reproduces this
problem.

As you can see in the toc (when opened in oo) there is lotts of
unwanted whitespace after chapter 2 , this is caused by tabs after the
title of chapter 2.

This doc also shows another problem, the pagebreak between the TOC and
the heading 1
is missing after conversion. I'll open a seperate bug for this.

Thanks for the update.

After much consideration, I think is really boils down to issue 3232.

Issue 3254 offers some additional explainations.

*** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 3232 ***

Hmm,

But in bug 3232 the problem is using tabs to indent heading titles,
here some wierdo put tabs after the heading title, not before. Word
seems to ignore this. While openoffice tries to show them, so its the
opposite of 3232 where tabs are shown by word but ignored by oo.

IMHO a quick fix would be to just filter out all whitespace after
headings in the word import filter. Whitespace after a heading can
never have any meaningfull use AFAIK.

Please concider reopening this, I believe the word filter is a very
important part of oo for many people and trying to say from every
other bug its in the layout engine is not going to help fixing the
word filter in any quick way.

SBA: Reopening to set the correct status.
Comment 12 stefan.baltzer 2004-02-20 16:51:42 UTC
SBA: Fixed in CWS swnum01.
Comment 13 stefan.baltzer 2004-02-20 16:55:11 UTC
SBA: Verified in CWS swnum01. Now the ugly empty lines (white space) in the TOC
are gone. The tabs are transferred into spaces so that only the "dotted line" of
the respective TOC entry gets a little shorter. Set to verified.
Comment 14 stefan.baltzer 2004-04-01 14:05:03 UTC
SBA: OK in Build src680_m33s1-3_01.8768. Closed.
