Description Unknown 2002-11-17 00:36:25 UTC
The entry of user data uses an address format that is utterly meaningless
outside the US (i.e. Street, City/State/Zip). The only truly international way
of entering addresses is the "Address line 1:", "Address line 2:", "Address line
3:" scheme.

SBA: "The only truely international way" is a bit optimistic. But you are right
that the current fields don't do the trick for all address conventions on this
planet.

I remember that we had several ideas what to add to the user and adress fields
(i.e. in Russia the "Father's Name" can be a 3rd part of the name, the address
could be 3 or 4 lines and so on).

Please note:
Changes in the user data fields are much more than just adding new boxes in the
user data dialog. It is very imprtant that all of these fields can be used a
field in documents: When you add address data in the dialog, you rightfully
expect to use ALL of it in documents.

Therefore new fields must be introduced, the matching from "old" to "new"
address fields and vice-versa must be clarified. The top of this is that it
might affect even the file format. Just my first guesses, but this should not
keep us from enhancing the address stuff.

Reassigned to Bettina.

SBA: Changed summary to summarize findings and ease cross-reading.

Two street lines are needed, perhaps even three, as there may be house name or
flat number or block name etc.

City is fine, but "state" should perhaps be changed to the more international
"region". "Zip" should definitely be changed to "Postal code", which is the
international term.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
