Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 92862
Keyboard shortcut to insert picture Alt-I-U-F broken
Last modified: 2013-02-27 23:04:33 UTC
Hi there Due to a poor choice in the assignment of menu 'underscore' keyboard shortcuts in the OpenOffice 2.4.1 release (english version), it has become difficult to set use the simple keyboard sequence for inserting pictures in presentations and drawing components of OpenOffice. Normally I use Alt-I-U-F to insert a picture. This works perfectly in Writer. But in Impress and Draw, this keyboard shortcut is broken due to the presence of Insert->Duplicate Slide, with the 'u' underlined. This breaks the Alt-I-U-F keyboard shortcut, because there are multiple options with 'u' available. I'm fairly sure this issue would affect both Linux and Windows, but I have only tested with Linux. I've mentioned this elsewhere -- it would be really helpful if there could be some general review of keyboard shortcuts assigned to menu items (eg Alt-I-C in Writer). Cheers JP

These are essentially all the same bug: PR 42780, PR 72271, PR 92862, PR 62846, and PR 76920. It is disappointing for those of us used to using the keyboard that none of them have been addressed in at least 4 years :-(
I have tested this on with the following conditions Release r1400866 Win7 Impress - with a blank presentation and slide. Pressing Alt, I, U, F I also tried holding all down and it still succeeded in opening the picture explorer window. Under these conditions I was unable to reproduce this issue. While this may still occur on linux boxes it does not seem to occur on windows 7 with this latest release. I will try and get a linux box to test it on. I hoping to find that the issue is fixed on all platforms and is no longer an issue.
Writer: Alt-I-U-F gives insert picture. Impress: Alt-I-U-F gives insert file. Draw: Alt-I-U-F gives insert file. - no consistency. checked with rev. 1327774.
