Description thedude 2002-11-16 17:01:53 UTC
I run WinXP SP1 english. When I install OOo 1.0.1 german it does finish without
any problems. Yet I cannot start any of the components including this autostart
thing afterwards. The first time I did install OOo did start the setup whenever
i tried to run any component from the OOo suite, which automatically tried to
repair my installation, but was missing c:\program files\Open Office
1.0.1\program\soffice.ini. Next I placed this file which I found in the zip
package in this very dir, but this resulted in setup stating something about
being already installed or such. Next I checked this website and found one
similar description ( ID 9080 ). I then tried the proposal in 9080 comment by
of@openoffice.org, as I was too unable to uninstall (neither via installer from
the package, nor via Add/Remove dialogue in Windows (( either one was missing
giving me this message about already being installed and that i should
reinstall, which was not possible )) ). Now that i could uninstall i reinstalled
the suite but now the issue is a different one. This time I am unable to start
any component as well, but it doesn't automatically run the setup anymore. Now
it gives me some error message in german (Application cannot be started.
Configuration Manager cannot be created.). Repairing the installation has no
effect on this problem.

Thank you for using and supporting OOo.

Are you performing a multi-user setup followed by a workstation setup?

I know I've seen this issue in IZ before but I cannot find it.

I think SP1 fixes something with the Java component. If possible
uninstall the MS Java component and OOo, install Java from
java.sun.com and reinstall OOo.

Then again, I could be dreaming.

Hi DUDE,
are you installingand using OOo 1.0.1 with different user account? On
my XP -Box OOo is running fine ( also english XP and german OOo).
It might help if you give me a step-by-step description.

Hello prgmgr,

> Thank you for using and supporting OOo.
Thank you for being part of such a lovely piece of open source
software and supporting me.
> Are you performing a multi-user setup followed by a workstation setup?
Please precise your question about that multi-user setup stuff.
I have a basic installation, one machine, no network installation or
boot.
> I know I've seen this issue in IZ before but I cannot find it.
I don't know what you are reffering to as IZ ?

AFAIK the Virtual Machine, MS's java engine, cannot be deinstalled.
anyways i would rather not deinstall. i have the latest java installed
straight from java.sun.com (1.4.1_01).

?!? :-)

Have you tried to remove OOo and reinstalled? Delete destination
folder C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org1.0.1\ and sversion.ini and
retry. C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org1.0.1\Please try a destination
without blanks in path, maybe that might help. BTW: The different
installation modes are described in the setup guide.pdf or you can
find it on the web pages of OOo.
Comment 8 thedude 2002-11-26 18:14:27 UTC
I installed OOo the common way and not as Network Installation for all
users (setup.exe /net). I reinstalled to C:\1\2\ but experienced the
same issues again (Corrupted Install, Setup crashin tryin to repair,
unable to uninstall).

I think we can close this, because not enough information, and very
old without any activity
