Description kzollman 2008-08-12 20:19:36 UTC
In Microsoft word, the "remove personal information on saving" option removes
the author of notes and replaces them with "Author". OOo has the same option
(Options->OpenOffice.org->Security->Options), but even when selected notes'
authors are left with the name of the individual (i.e., personal information).

Reassigned to ES.

@MOD/MAV/MBA: well this is an enhancement between notes and security. The
question is if we plan/want/can implement this in an upcoming Notes CWS or if we
simply reassign for requirement?

for me, this is a bug and not an enhancement.

The dialog says "remove personal information on saving", but only the userdata
is removed.

Notes author, all authors in relation to change tracking and probably other
stuff as well is not removed.

Thanks for looking into this. Using my pedestrian use of the word "bug" I think
this is not an enhancement but a bug.

I think this is a pretty serious shortcomming. I used the "remove personal
information on saving" button expecting it to remove my name everywhere it
occured in the document. My expectation was caused both by the obvious meaning
of the phrase "personal information" but also because the button (with an
identical name) in MS Office *does* remove names from notes.

My name occurring in the comments is as much personal information as my name
occurring in the metadata, in my case I didn't care about my name in the
metadata, but I *did* care about having my name in the notes.

If this button doesn't remove this information I think (a) it shouldn't say
"personal information", (b) it shouldn't read exactly like a button in another
program and behave differently, and (c) it ought to warn you that some
information (like your name in notes) won't be removed.

mod->mba: same issue in calc, so it should be done inside sfx2 somewhere

Resetting 'Version'
Comment 7 Mathias_Bauer 2008-09-01 12:06:36 UTC
I think it doesn't matter whether we call it "bug" or "enhancement". In fact the
function does exactly what it is supposed to do, so the bug may be that the
description of it in the dialog is misleading.

But it wouldn't help fixing that, right? What we need is a new function that
removes personal information *everywhere*. This is not only metadata but also
comments - and perhaps also in text fields and change tracking, I assume.

This is a reasonable request.

Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
