Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 91810
Printing in Impress
Last modified: 2014-04-27 13:08:25 UTC
Arising from issue 91808 - briefly: Insert > Page Number ... > Notes and Handouts > Tick page number box View > Handout - no page number visible? File > Print > Options > Handouts > OK > OK No page numbers on the handout, no help for any poor soul who has to put the sheets in order! The UI issues here relate to printing of presentations rather creating and displaying them in their target format and medium. So there is inevitably a risk of some confusion. The Insert menu is mainly directed at inserting on slides. The handout provisions (header, footer) are not apparent in this menu, but this menu is the (only?) way in to them. The format > page menu might be a better place to put formating for paper copies. Is there a UI-consistency group where this sort of issue is considered? It is good to see the Insert > Fields dialogue, but it doesn't seem to work on the Handout layout text boxes (possibly the same issue as page numbering?) -- And while on the subject of Insert > Fields, is there any reason why we can't lift the more comprehensive set of Fields options provided with Writer? As well as UI consistency it would give more flexibility... (This would be nice in Calc, too) The printing menu in Impress should at least make it clear to the user whether it is working in slide numbers or page numbers. When printing handouts, pages should mean pages!
Please report one problem in one issue. Otherwise it gets impossible to handle them: http://qa.openoffice.org/ooQAReloaded/Docs/QA-Reloaded-BasicRules.html#one_per_issue As you can see when using View/master/slide master there are already placeholders in the master. You can activate them by using view/header and footer. Thats why the view menu is used and not the insert menu. Reassigned.
Windows 7 here with Build 9582, Using the Introducing a New Product slide template, I tried to replicate the reports findings. Selecting View > Handout displays empty slides instead of the expected slides. However, selecting Handout in the Print window has the page preview image react accordingly. It still does not display the page number though, even with it checked in Insert > Page Number...
