Description bryancole 2002-11-11 18:54:32 UTC
I want to insert a movie-clip into Impress, with the insert->object->movie
function.

After inserting the MPEG file (not excessive at <1MB) it starts playing in a new
window, using the mpeg-player plugin. If I kill this window OOo locks up. If I
"view slide show" OOo locks up when I get to the page with the movie in it.

Ideally, the movie should play "within" the OO-Impress page (not as a separate
window).

cheers,
Bryan

I just tested the video plugin on a more uptodate system running
RH7.3: While OO does not lockup when using the MPEG plugin, it is
still unusable: The plugin windows all appear out-of-sight off the
edge of the screen.

Please tell me where I can download the movie-player and/or the
movie-player plugin. I test it with the MPlayer and I can't reproduce
the bug with the MPlayer.

MPlayer ???? Does OOo work with MPlayer ?????????!!!!!!!!!!!

I first reported this a long while back. OOo-1.0.x was trying to use
the default Netscape MPEG-player plugin.

How does OOo know which plugin to use? There doesn't appear to be a
way to configure this.

On my current system, with OOo-1.1, the Insert Video button is blanked
out. If I try to insert an MPEG as a plugin, I get the "missing
pluging" symbol (a blue jigsaw piece). Unfortunately, it's not clear
whether I simply need to install more software (mplayer, JRTE etc.),
or if it's just broken.

My impression is that the OOo plugin architecture is rather broken in
any case, as most Mozilla plugins (acrobat reader, adobe-svg,
flashplayer etc.) don't seem to work.

If you can get any MPEGs to play at all in/from Impress, please let me
know what extra software is required and how to configure it!

cheers,
Bryan

I've just installed MPlayer-1.0.0.2pre2 and mplayerplug-0.95 (the
mozilla plugin for mplayer). These work fine with Mozilla/Galeon.

OOo-1.1 appears to register the plugin: the InsertVideo button is now
active. If I try inserting an MPEG, I get "starting plugin
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/mplayerplug-in.so ..." but then nothing.
After a while like this, OOo locks up completely (true to form!).
