Description gonzalez 2008-06-24 16:59:50 UTC
When you open a relatively large file (900 kb, with 250 footnotes and 20 notes
in the marge) in OOo-dev 3 m21, the first note appear only after a couple of
seconds (and the rest of the notes take even longer time to appear), with the
content in one place and the frame of the note on a different place. You have to
wait and go to another place in the file before the note finally looks OK.
When I partition the file into 2 files, the program works a lot better.
This happened also in OOo-dev 3 m20 (no problem in 2.4.1)
In general, navigating in m21 is very slow.
(I work with MS Vista and 3 Gb memory)

Please attach a sample document.
Comment 2 gonzalez 2008-06-24 20:14:24 UTC
Unfortunately I can't send you the file where the problem happens, and I do not
have any other document with the same characteristics (it is an academic book I
am writing). I have also tested with another document, a long plain text
document (Don Quixote) with no references, nor graphics, etc, to which I added
a lot of notes, but in this case, there were no problems.
It worked OK up to m19. With m20 and m21 things went wrong. In both cases, I
uninstalled the program and installed again m19 and in this case there were no
problems. In every case I used the same document.
I work now withe the same document in 2.4.1 and there is no problem.
I am afraid thus that this report will have to remain unconfirmed.

file crashes when modifying note (or other) icon or inserting a note
Comment 4 gonzalez 2008-06-25 02:13:35 UTC
The problem seems to be caused by OOo Write files that have become corrupted
after being created in OOo dev 3 m19, reworked in 2.4.1, and finally back in m
20 and m21. It seems to be related to notes. In these files, inserting notes
makes the program crash.
I have reported a problem with icons and notes, and attached a file in issue 91021
Comment 5 eric.savary 2008-06-25 21:14:11 UTC
@gonzalez: I could reproduce the crash of the attach document. I renamed the
summary accordingly and forward to the developeemnt.

For the performance problem: write a new issue and please send me your document
per e-mail, refering to the issue number in the subject line. I work for SUN and
I am bound by contract to keep it confidential.

@MOD: we have broken something with Notes5. The attached document crahes when
one inserts a note (m21). Everything is fine in m19. Please try to fix it in Notes6.
Comment 6 max.odendahl 2008-06-26 11:45:59 UTC
mod->es: does the crash only happen with a larger zoom factor, so the view jumps
to the right to make the note visible? If yes, duplicate of 90938 and already
fixed in notes6

if not, please explain exactly where you are inserting the note, as I could not
reproduce in this case
Comment 7 eric.savary 2008-06-26 13:34:24 UTC
@MOD: Yes, it seems to depend on the zoom factor.
Inserting a note on last page (after "Contents") crashes at 70% zoom but not at 50%.

Feel free to close as duplicate or add this issue to Note6 as WORKSFORME. I'll
then check aain in the CWS.
