Description drankinatty 2008-06-16 06:13:55 UTC
Developers:

Closing OO 2.4.1 caused OO writer to crash triggering a backtrace regarding
/usr/lib64/libX11.so.6 The OS is openSuSE 10.3 x86_64. The computer was a
Toshiba Satellite P205D-S7802. (see
http://www.3111skyline.com/download/error/DetailSpecs-satellite_P205D-S7802.pdf)

I haven't experienced this error before and it may be OO closing uncleanly
causing the backtrace or it may be a problem with kde or both. I'll let you make
the determination. The backtrace is at:

http://www.3111skyline.com/download/error/soffice.bin.kcrash

No data was lost and the "save don't save cancel" dialog asking what to do
with the unsaved file was properly displayed and "don't save" was selected
immediately before the crash.

If you can think of anything else I can send to help with this issue, please do
not hesitate to ask. I am more than happy to help.

pmladek->drankinatty: Do you see it with the Sun's build or with the package
from the openSUSE's OpenOffice.org:STABLE or OpenOffice.org:UNSTABLE
installation source?

If it is the openSUSE's package, you trigerred the bug
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=398244

There are some strange problems trigerred by new XRandr feature. Users see it
mostly with KDE and mostly on openSUSE-10.3. Some users saw it also on
openSUSE-10.2 and 11.0. We are not able to reproduce it on SLED10.

There is also the bug https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=399722 that
looks similar and happens in GNOME but it is still not clear whether it is the
same problem.

I am not susre if the Sun's build is affected because they do not use the KDE
dialogs...

It is also related to the issue #89718.

The Xrandr stuff causes a random behavior in more situations.

I keep this issue opened because it is OOo-2.4.1 related.

pmladek,

I am using the openSuSE build and I have re-opened
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=398244 as it was closed as fixed in
2.4.1.5 which obviously isn't the case. The crash happens every time you close
OO. Similar backtraces are created each time. From the novell bug it appears
most easily reproducible with x86-64 architecture on openSuSE 10.3.

If this isn't a Sun isssue, you can go ahead and close this bug. You may
want to check with the openSuSE devs to make sure they have a good handle on it
though. You might just be holding the solution in your hand. If we don't fully
understand where the crash is coming from yet, you might want to leave it open
just to confirm it doesn't rear its ugly head later. You make the call.

    Thanks for your help!

drankinatty,

nobody said that it was fixed in 2.4.1.5. We close the bugs as fixed when the
fix is commited. It always take some time until the fixed build is available.
This time it should be available within two days.

In the meantime, you could use the packages from
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/OpenOffice.org:/STABLE/
The problematic XRandr has been disabled there since Saturday.

Devs,

There are no more crashes on OO build 2.4.1.5 (openSuSE) after kernel
upgrade to 2.6.22.18-0.2-default and xorg update to xorg-x11-7.2-135.4. I don't
know if that "fixed" the crash or just masked it effect. Either way, OO isn't
crashing on exit for me anymore.
