text produced in OO, copied to clipboard then pasted to MS Office 2002
applications (tried Outlook and Word) crashes them. I have to paste the text
first into a text editor then copy it from there.

Howard, thank you for using and supporting OOo.

Could you clarify what you mean by "copied to clipboard"?  Do you 
just select the text in OOo, Edit->Copy and then try to paste in 
Office?

Have you tried doing a Paste Special in Office and choosing the 
option for unformatted text?
